Factors to Consider When Choosing a Top
Conclusion: Thanks for Stopping In

Unique Moisture-Wicking Top
Puma

I’m a big fan of Puma golf gear. And when it comes to their polos, they may make the best of the entire bunch.

The material this shirt is made of really steals the show, and it’s called CLOUDSPUN. It’s a blend of recycled polyester and elastane that feels somehow feels like cotton.

So while it feels good against your body, these synthetic materials wick moisture from your body to the outside of the shirt where it dries faster than cotton ever could. In short, you’ll reach for this shirt in the August heat.

Finally, most floral-patterned polos feature a design that covers the entire garment, but the Puma Abaco is different. With the pattern only appearing on the chest, this top is a one-of-a-kind option. I think you’ll love wearing it as much as I love recommending it.

Pros: Great for hot summer days where you’ll sweat a bunch, fantastic looks, UV resistant, fit for golf with wide shoulders, chest, and sleeves four-way stretch moves with you

Cons: Not much

Perfect for a Hot Day
Under Armour

dark shirt with small flower pattern

Golfing during the dog days of summer leaves most of us grasping for a cold beverage. But what if I told you that a polo could do its part to help keep you cool?

One polo can, and it’s made up of Iso-Chill fabric from Under Armour. This fabric, consisting of 100% polyester and displaying a faint honeycomb pattern, works by moving heat from your body. It literally feels cool against your skin.

Plus, with four-way stretch fabric, you’ll enjoy the freedom to swing from any position without your shirt bunching up.

Then to top it all off, the shirt features UPF 50 tech to keep the sun from burning you up during the summer blitz. For golfers looking for hot-weather gear, look at the excellent Iso-Chill material from Under Armour.

Pros: Coolest shirt around, very stretchy, the thin collar looks great, anti-odor tech keeps the shirt from stinking, wicks sweat really well, dries fast

Cons: Looser fit is not for everyone

Recycled Material, Not Recycled Looks
Callaway

unique patterned golf polo

Now that we’re on the subject of somewhat costly shirts, I figured it’s a great time to talk about one of my favorites on this list: Callaway’s Structured polo.

With one of the most unique patterns on the list, it won’t look like some recycled old floral golf shirt from yesteryear, even though 30% of it is made of recycled polyester. So, not only do you get a cool look, but you minimized the need for brand-new materials.

It isn’t made up solely of polyester though; 14% of the shirt is composed of elastane. This combination forms Callaway’s Swing Tech technology to provide complete freedom of movement.  And, with Opti Dri, moisture wicks away from your body to keep you dry.

All in all, you know Callaway’s quality, and it’s a big selling point of their structured shirt. Check one out today for a great look on and off the course.

Pros: lightweight material is easy to care for, UBF 50 for sun protection, highly flexible, fits well, doesn’t cling to the body

Cons: More expensive than some, sleeves slightly longer than some golfers like

A Bit Abstract
adidas

mesh shirt in abstract flower pattern

You might not be able to tell at first glance what the pattern on this top actually is, but if you look closely, the splotches make up large flowers.

And like Callaway’s option, it features recycled materials. The Adidas shirt, though, is made up of at least 70% recycled materials. So, if you’re worried about plastic waste, choose a shirt that helps keep some out of the landfill.

Now, about the fabric. This four-way stretch material moves stretches, bends, and flexes when you do. So, you’ll feel great no matter where you’re swinging a club from. Plus, like many other synthetic tops on this list, it wicks moisture and dries extremely fast.

So, if you’re looking for a comfortable, durable top that features an eye-catching all-over design, look no further than this Flower Mesh from Adidas.

Pros: Very soft material, lightweight, easy to care for, looks good on and off the course

Cons: Not cheap

Money-Saving Top Pick
Amazon Essentials

man in green floral shirt

Up until now every top I’ve mentioned errs a bit on the more expensive side. Sure, the Royal & Awesome top won’t break the bank, but let’s talk about an option just about any golfer can afford: Amazon’s Essentials top.

And just because it costs less doesn’t mean you get few features. For instance, you still get a polyester top with UPF 50 sun protection, moisture wicking, and quick drying capabilities.

It’s lightweight, comfortable, and comes in tons of patterns and colors too. You might even find a pineapple or flamingo version if you look hard enough.

Plus, it’s a regular cut shirt, so it won’t hinder your movements. Check out Amazon and fill up on golf shirts today.

Pros: Inexpensive, ships fast

Cons: Not as soft as others, some say it’s thin and runs small

Women’s Puma Top
Puma

flower pattern on sleeveless womens polo

If you remember me gushing about the men’s Puma up top, I have many of the same things to say about this women’s polo. And it makes sense because it’s made out of the same fantastic CLOUDSPUN fabric.

With the ability to quickly and effectively wick moisture from your body to the outside fabric where it dries quickly, leaving you feeling comfortable no matter how hot and sweaty it gets outside.

When it comes to the pattern, it isn’t some loud-in-your-face style. It’s actually a bit of an understated tie-dye look that reminds me a bit of a firework on a Fourth of July night.

And with a performance fit, featuring slightly wider shoulders, chest, and sleeves you’ll feel comfortable hitting streaking shots into the sky no matter what month it is.

Pros: Floral print isn’t overly flowery, four-way stretch moves with you, feels like cotton despite a synthetic makeup

Cons: Armholes are slightly big, racerback style not apparent in Amazon listing

Factors to Consider When Choosing a Floral Top

Who thought there would be some technical things to consider when buying your next golf polo? Well, if you’re anything like me, you like to understand exactly what it is you’re buying before pulling the trigger.

And in order to facilitate that, I have a section all for you about the different factors that go into a floral polo.

Let’s dive in.

Pattern

This blog post is of course about a very specific type of pattern you want to incorporate into your golf wardrobe — a floral pattern. Luckily for you, I was sure to include all the different types.

If you want a more subdued style that doesn’t run the length of the garment, be sure to check out the Puma Abaco.

For something that runs the entire length of the shirt, I think Nike’s Player looks fantastic. Either way, because this is an extremely specific type of shirt, I think nailing the pattern might be the most important consideration to make.

So be sure to take a look at what reviewers say about the brightness and quality of the print to get a good idea of exactly what you’ll receive on your doorstep.

Fabric

Now, aside from the pattern, I think the fabric is the most important part of your floral golf shirt. That’s because different shirts are good in different weather conditions. Some are made for hot weather, while some will make you highly uncomfortable during the hot season.

Let’s take a look at different fabrics to understand their unique qualities.

Polyester

This is the most common material you’ll find on these types of shirts. It’s made from plastics, holds its shape, is durable, and is water resistant.

One of its best qualities, especially when it comes to golf, is its ability to wick moisture and dry fast. This quality keeps your own sweat from sticking to you and driving you mad.

But, it doesn’t breathe all that well, so that’s why manufacturers often blend it with other fibers to help it allow air to move through the material easier.

Spandex

It’s likely you’ve come across spandex before. This extremely flexible synthetic material has the ability to stretch over and over while retaining its shape. That makes it an ideal partner to blend into less-stretchy materials like cotton.

But, just know that spandex isn’t the best next-to-skin material. It tends to stick to you, so while it can resist sweat well, it will cling to your body. That’s why it’s blended in smaller quantities into other materials — to promote freedom of movement.

Elastane

Quite similar to spandex, this lightweight material has great elasticity (hence the name). It’s also very strong despite its weight. But, like spandex, is not a great material directly next to your skin.

That’s because it isn’t all that breathable and tends to stick. So, that’s why it’s blended into less stretchy materials to promote four-way stretch and freedom of movement.

Cotton

All-natural cotton makes a perfect partner to blend with the synthetic materials we’ve mentioned above. That’s because it’s extremely breathable, so it allows air to move through shirts easily. It’s also softer than polyester, but it isn’t as durable.

And unlike these other synthetic materials, it doesn’t dry very well. So while it can wick moisture from your body, it’ll often just stay wet.

That’s why it makes an ideal partner for polyester. They team up to make more durable materials that breath better and dry faster.

Sun Protection

Sun protection is a factor all golfers should consider when shopping for shirts. That’s because most golfing happens in the summer. So, I’ll give you a quick breakdown of what specific ratings mean.

UPF

Ultraviolet protection factor (UPF) provides a way of knowing how much UVA (skin-aging ultraviolet rays) and UVB (skin-burning ultraviolet rays) a material can absorb before it allows any to reach your skin. So, if you have skin that burns really easily, look for higher number UPF numbers.

Anything UPF 30 and above is great, with UPF 50 absorbing 98% of both UVA and UVB rays from reaching your skin.

SPF

Also called Sun Protection Factor, this metric has to do with time and is largely related to sunscreens. But, for the sake of understanding let’s take a quick look.

SPF applies a multiplier to how long it takes for UVB rays to burn your skin, which means its more of a subjective number.

So, if your skin burns quickly say in 5 minutes, an SPF factor of 30 will multiply the times it takes for your skin to burn 30 times.

That means your skin will burn in 150 minutes (5 x 30 = 150).
